Commissioners Assignment Method 2016/17

Commissioners Assignment Method (CAM) assists NHS England administrators to correctly identify in Commissioning Data Set (CDS) records which organisations are responsible for paying for the services provided by NHS England (and as represented by the CDS activity record). It is based upon the Data Services for Commissioners - Commissioner Assignment Method Flow Chart 2016/17: Accompanying Guidance and Reference Tables (https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/commssnr-assign-process-guid.pdf).

CAM greatly simplifies the assignment process by providing the user with a series of “Yes/No” questions that guides the user to make the correct assignment. For example, the assignment process starts with the question: “Is the Commissioning Data Set type Accident and Emergency?”. If it is (i.e. when the CDS code is 010) then CAM presents the next question: “Is the patient usually resident in England?”. If the patient is, then the next question is: “Is the patient registered with or referred from an English GP Practice that has 13Q as the parent code in EPRACCUR?”. If this is the case, then the correct assignment is presented as “NHS England Armed Forces Commissioning Hub”. The decision pathway is summarised and can then be reviewed

Throughout the process, CAM provides the users with ample notes and explanations; CAM includes an extensive glossary and other appendices that will allow users to quickly master the complex assignment method. CAM ensures that the user has the information he or she needs aways to hand.

CAM is easy to learn and can be mastered with a few minutes of use.

CAM consists of five components:

The Assignment Process Flowchart
